What was the highlight of GHotels Athos Palace

The manager Evi was very helpful and tried to accommodate us where possible.
The hotel overall was really not nice. The breakfast was terrible, no continental breakfast. Greece has such beautiful fruit in summer, watermelon, melon, peaches, nectarines, figs, pineapple and none of this was served at breakfast. Fruit selection was very poor, the general selection of food was poor. We felt like a bunch of prisoners being lined-up for breakfast. The quality of the food was terrible. The coffee cups at breakfast were chipped and they continue to use these. There were no teaspoons so you get one teaspoon to share between 4 adults when having coffee. The swimming towels had holes and were falling apart. Then they didn't have swimming towels at 11am in the morning (collection is only from 10am) and there were no towels available. The person serving us told us it wasn't his problem. When we called for the manager, they quickly arranged towels for us. The tiles around the swimming pool are slippery, the childrens' play area and jungle gyms are in full sunlight with no shade so the children can not use these until after the sun goes down. There is no coffee in the bedrooms, the pillows are old and flat so very uncomfortable and you get 1 pillow per person. The room was made up and bath towels removed but not returned and when we called for bath towels they brought 4 hand towels. The WiFi is terrible. The only place you get signal is if you sit in the lobby. There is no signal in the bedrooms, restaurant and outside by the pool/bar area. The other really terrible thing is that the beach in front of the hotel, you have to pay for umbrellas and chairs. This should be provided by the hotel to their guests. Overall how it is rated as a four star hotel only the Gods know.

Good
We booked double room with garden view and we were kindly upgraded at no cost to suite with sea view. This was a nice suprise. The food was really good with lots of varieties and delicious (we booked half board so breakfast and dinner were really good). Staff was very kind and the place, surroundings and the beach were amazing. I will definitely go back.
The only thing I did not like was the very old interior inside the rooms.
